To create stress and drama H.G Wells uses first person. He uses this throughout the story, for physical exercise; ‘Eight and twenty years’ say I, ‘I have lived and never a ghost have I seen as yet.’ He uses first person because it is making the cosmos sound arrogant and soon he leave behind get what’s coming to him.
